What you'll need to apply
Gather these before you start. The whole application takes under 3 minutes once you have them ready.
Your driving licence
A valid national driving licence from your country of residence. Must be valid for at least 6 months from today.
- Photo-card driving licence (front + back)
- Paper counterpart if your licence has one
- Provisional licences are not accepted
A passport-style photo
Printed on the front of your IDP. Must match the photo on your driving licence so border officials can cross-check.
- 35mm x 45mm (or equivalent digital size 600 x 770 pixels)
- Taken within the last 6 months
- Plain white or light grey background
- Face fully visible, no sunglasses or hats (religious head coverings permitted)
- JPEG or PNG, under 5 MB
Your passport
Used to verify your nationality and full legal name. We accept the biometric page only.
- A clear photo of the passport biometric page
- All four corners visible in the frame
- Valid for at least 6 months from today
- JPEG or PNG, under 10 MB
A shipping address (physical plans only)
If you choose a plan that includes a printed booklet, we'll need somewhere to send it. Digital-only plans skip this step.
- Use an address where someone can sign for a tracked delivery
- Include a unit / flat number if applicable
- International shipping: check that your country is on our shipping list
A payment method
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Payments are processed by Stripe — your card details never touch our servers.

Common questions
My driving licence doesn't have a photo — is it still accepted?
Yes, paper-only licences are accepted if they include your full name, date of birth, and licence number. Upload a clear scan of both sides.
Can I use a selfie instead of a passport-style photo?
A selfie works if it meets the specs above: plain background, no accessories, head centered, taken at arm's length or further. We'll let you know during upload if we can't use it.
What if my passport is about to expire?
We can still issue an IDP, but most border officials require both documents to be valid throughout your trip. If your passport expires within 6 months, we recommend renewing that first.
Do I need the physical booklet, or is digital enough?
For most rental cars and short-stay travel, the digital IDP is accepted. Some countries (notably rural areas of Japan, China, Russia, and much of Africa) still require the physical booklet at police checkpoints. Our country guides flag which require physical copies.
How long does the whole application take?
